Convert Home Videos To View On An Ipod

You can watch videos on a fifth generation iPod Video even if you have not bought it from the iTunes Store. You can convert home videos to view on an iPod using free software on the Internet and your iTunes software. Follow these steps to convert home videos to view on an iPod.

Instructions

1. Load the video to your computer. Using your digital camcorder and the bundled software, transfer your videos to your hard drive. Ideally, save them in Quicktime (.mov) format.

2. Add the video to your library. Open iTunes and click "File" then "Add to Library." Browse to find the home videos you just saved onto your hard drive and select the file.

3. Select the video. Find the video in your iTunes library and click it once to highlight it.

4. Click the "Advanced" menu and select "Convert Selection for iPod."

5. Wait for conversion to complete. You will see an orange icon that reads "Converting Songs" while the file is converting. It will disappear when conversion is complete.

6. Find the new file. A copy of the file will appear with an identical name as the old file, but the new file will be "mpeg-4 video file." If you don't see a "Kind" column, try right-clicking and viewing the file properties to determine which one is new.

7. Test the video. Go ahead and try viewing the new video to make sure it works. You can delete the old one if the new one is sufficient.

8. Sync your iPod. Sync your iPod as you do normally or drag and drop the video to the iPod icon. The new format should play on your iPod.
