Connect A Computer To An Audio System

Enjoying stereo and even surround-sound audio from a computer requires a simple connection with an audio-video receiver connected to a speaker system. Any audio system with a standard set of RCA-type jacks or a 3.5mm mini-plug jack can be connected to receiver audio signals from a computer. Converting from the computer's mini-plug jack to RCA stereo jacks requires a Y-adapter, available at computer stores.

Instructions

1. Plug the mini-plug on the Y-adapter into the computer's headphone or Line OUT jack. On a desktop PC, the jack is typically located on the back of the central processing unit (CPU). On a laptop, the jack is often found on the left edge.

2. Insert the plugs on one end of a set of RCA audio cables into the jacks on the Y-adapter.

3. Connect the plugs on the other end of the cable to a set of audio IN jacks on a receiver or other audio device.

4. Set the input selector on the receiver or other audio device to the set of jacks connecting it with the computer.
