Recover Smart Media Card Data

Smart Media cards are a type of flash memory used to store data for portable electronics such as digital cameras. Due to the way that flash memory stores data it is possible to recover files on the card that were lost. Missing files can even be restored if you accidentally deleted them or if the data was corrupted because of physical damage to the card. To recover data on a Smart Media card you need to use a third party recovery utility.

Instructions

1. Navigate to one of the Resources links for a Smart Media data recovery utility such as "Smart Media Recovery" or "Recover My Files." Download and install the recovery program if there isn't a similar program already on your computer.

2. Remove the Smart Media card from the device it's currently installed in. Plug the card into the Smart Media port on your computer's card reader.

3. Close down the Auto Play window that appears on the screen. Open the Smart Media data recovery program.

4. Click the drive letter at the left side of the screen that corresponds to the Smart Media card.

5. Click "Start" at the bottom of the screen. Wait for the program to finish scanning for lost or corrupted data.

6. Click the check box next to the specific files you want to recover on the Smart Media card. Click "Save Files."

7. Choose the location on the Smart Media card or your computer's hard drive where you want the recovered data to be saved. Click "Save" to recover the files.
