A Stepbystep Guide To Using The Sb600

The Nikon Autofocus Speedlight SB-600 is a flash head that allows a photographer to perform many variations of TTL auto flash and other manual flash operations. It can be used as a wireless remote flash unit in conjunction with digital SLR cameras that have compatibility with Nikon's Creative Lighting System. It has a flexible head that allows for 90-degree tilts and up to 180-degree rotations, and also includes an automatic zoom function and a built-in wide-flash adapter.

Instructions

1. Open the lid of the SB-600 battery chamber, add four AA-type penlight batteries (1.5 V and lower) and close. Either Alkaline-manganese, Lithium (1.5 V), Nickel (1.5 V), NiCd (rechargeable, 1.2 V), or Ni-MH (Nickel Metal Hydride, rechargeable, 1.2 V) can be used.

2. Press the "On/Off" button for approximately 0.3 seconds to turn the product on. The ready-light should switch on.

3. Press the "Flash" button to complete a test fire and ensure the product is working properly.

4. Turn off your compatible camera and the SB-600 to begin attaching the flash.

5. Twist the SB-600's mounting-foot lock lever to the left.

6. Glide the SB-600's mounting foot into the accessory shoe of the camera body and lock the lever by rotating it to the right.

7. Press down on the flash head rotating/tilting lock-release button on the SB-600 to position the flash head to horizontal/front.

8. Press the "On/Off" button on the SB-600 and switch on the camera body. The position of the zoom head on the SB-600 will adjust automatically to the focal length of the lens.

9. Turn the camera's exposure mode to "Programmed Auto" (P).

10. Set the metering system of the camera to "Matrix Metering." If this cannot be chosen, set to "Center-Weighted Metering."

11. Press "Mode" to begin setting the flash mode on the SB-600. After "Mode" is pressed, the LCD panel will display "TTL BL."

12. Select the flash mode you require by pressing the "Mode" button again, each time it is pressed a new mode will come up on the LCD screen. You can choose either "TTL BL" which means i-TTL Automatic Balanced Fill-Flash, "TTL" or Standard i-TTL Flash, or "Manual Flash."

13. Check that the SB-600 "Ready" light is on or that it shows as ready in the viewfinder of the camera.

14. Point the camera and shoot.
