Troubleshoot A Program Lock On A Uniden Bc700a Scanner

The Uniden BC700A is a 12-band, 50-channel scanner. It can be used as a mobile scanner or set up as a base scanner. The BCA700's channel lock feature allows users to prevent the accidental programming of unwanted channels or alterations to programmed channels. And while the BCA700's program lock only consists of a basic "On/Off" switch, problems with the lock can drastically limit your control over the scanner. However, there are a few thing you can do if you encounter problems with the BCA700A's program lock.

Instructions

1. Check the BC700A's screen, to ensure that the "Memory Lock" message isn't displayed. If the message is present, try toggling the "Memo Lock" button on the back of the scanner, to see if the message disappears. Attempt to program a channel if the message disappears.

2. Press the scanner's "Hold" button, if the "Memory Lock" message is not displayed on the BC700A's screen. The "Hold" doubles as a "Stop" button. "Hold" can stop an active function -- like searching or scanning -- and allow the scanner to be programmed. Attempt to program that scanner after pressing "Hold."

3. Restart your scanner, if the "Memory Lock" message doesn't respond to the "Memo Lock" button. Turn the "Volume" dial to its "Off" position to turn the scanner off. Disconnect the scanner's power cable to cycle out the scanner's power.

4. Ensure that the scanner's "Memo Lock" button is set to the "Off" position. Replace the power cable and then turn the scanner back on. Attempt to program the scanner again.
