Unload Film

Cameras come in a variety of styles.

It is important to properly remove the film from a camera to avoid exposing any pictures on the film. Review the instructions included with your camera to make sure you understand the parts and functions. Unloading film from a camera should be done inside to avoid exposure to sunlight and heat. Also, make sure the film is removed and stored in a dry location to prevent moisture damage.

Instructions

1. View the dial on top of the camera to make sure all of the pictures on the film are taken. If the number is zero, the film is ready to be removed from the camera.

2. Listen for the camera to automatically rewind the film. If the camera is not an automatic rewind, manually rewind the film by extending the handle and turning it until it stops. Also, some cameras have a button to press before the rewinding process begins, so look for a rewind button.

3. Push the button that releases the film compartment on the back of the camera by moving it to open. Open the film compartment and look for the round spool that contains the film. Grasp the film and pull straight out.

4. Place the film in the canister it came in or a similar film canister to keep it safe from heat and light. Put the lid on top of the canister until the film is ready for developing.
