Use An Htc Touch Pro

The HTC Touch Pro---now in its second incarnation and called the HTC Touch Pro 2---combines touch-screen data entry with a pullout QWERTY keyboard. The screen is a 2.8-inch VGA for good resolution. The device has a web browser that replicates the web as seen on a full-sized computer. Other features include integrated Global Positioning System (GPS) and Wi-Fi connectivity. An unusual and useful function is TV Out, which allows you to view media stored on the device on a large screen.

Instructions

1. Install the SIM card and battery. Remove the stylus and then the back cover. Push the back cover up until it disengages and slides up. Insert the SIM card; remember the gold contacts face down. Align the battery with the bottom of the compartment and push the battery into position.

2. Close the back cover and replace the stylus.

3. Turn the device on. Press the power button. It's on the top. The device will run through an auto-configuration setup. Just follow the prompts.

4. Touch "Start" on the top left corner of the screen. If you've used a Windows Mobile smartphone such as the Palm before, you'll pick this up pretty quickly as it's similar.

5. Touch an icon and the program relating to that icon will appear on the screen.

6. Open the hardware keyboard. Slide the screen panel to the right and the keyboard will be revealed. The screen will switch over to landscape.

7. Adjust the angle of the screen. You can adjust it to 50 degrees, which allows you to replicate a laptop feel, in which the keyboard is flat on the desk and the screen tilts toward you.

8. Synchronize the device with your computer. Again, if you're familiar with Windows Mobile, the sync will work in the same way as before. Just connect the device to the computer with the supplied cable and Microsoft ActiveSync will launch.

9. Choose the HTC Pro as a new device. You may have to copy some files over from your previous device. You can use Windows to do this. Find the previous device's file area on your computer and copy and paste to the new device's file area.

10. Install ActiveSync 4.5, which is on the disk that came in the box, if you aren't upgrading from a previous Windows Mobile product. Just insert the disk in the computer, connect the cable and follow the prompts.
