Get Great Hdtv Reception

High Definition TV or HDTV is finding its way into more homes. You don't need cable or a satellite receiver to get HDTV in your home. You can pull HDTV in with a properly positioned antenna. Here are some tips to help you get good HDTV reception in your home.

Instructions

1. Determine what HDTV channels are available in your area over the air. You can do that by checking your address in the AntennaWeb database. You might want to print the results for future reference.

2. Find out what kind of antenna is necessary to pick up the HDTV channels. The AntennaWeb results page gives you that type of information. You may need to purchase a combination antenna that you can point in more than one direction.

3. Set up your ladder. Attach your antenna to your rooftop or wherever you decide to place it. Put the antenna in as direct line as possible to the broadcast tower. Trim any trees that may be in the way and remove any other obstructions. Try to avoid any nearby electrical boxes that might cause interference.

4. Purchase the best wiring you can find for this project. It does make a difference in HDTV reception. Connect the wiring from the antenna to the HDTV in the house.

5. Use the information from the AntennaWeb database to point your antenna in the correct direction to pick up the HDTV signal. Each HDTV tower has a compass reading from your location. With that as your guide, you should be able to get clear HDTV reception in your house from your antenna.

6. Read the user's manual that came with your HDTV set to fine tune the picture quality. You may not like the manufacturer's out-of-the-box settings, so set the TV to get the best quality picture for your home's lighting and to suit your preferences.
