What Causes The Short Life Of A Cell Phone Battery

Bluetooth Quickly Drains Battery Life

Bluetooth takes three times as much battery life as an Infrared ports. Since bluetooth runs in the background at all time, it can drain battery life. Simply turning off the bluetooth option greatly increases a battery's lifespan. This can easily be done from most devices by accessing their "Connections" option.

Programs Running In The Background

Much like a standard PC, programs are left running on a device's background until a user stops those programs from running. The more applications you have running, the harder the processor works and the quicker the battery drains. Close unused applications to increase your battery's lifecycle. Most phones now offer some sort of "Task Manager."

Wi-Fi and Data Connections

When a phone is constantly searching for GPRS, Edge and 3G data connections or while it is attached to Wi-Fi, the battery drains much more quickly than when it is not in constant discover mode. Turning off these options saves battery strength. These options can usually be found in the same "Connections" area as your device Bluetooth option.

Backlit Screens

If a device leaves the screen brightness at full for long periods of time, the battery drains very quickly. Set the screen to turn down at shorter intervals or even turn off when you make calls and you'll increase the battery life. The option to adjust your display is usually found in the "Phone Settings" screen.
