Dismantle Celestron Telescopes

A telescope is a precision instrument and a big investment, so careful dismantling is essential to prevent damage before you move or maintain it. Celestron telescopes are rated highly by amateur astronomers and usually make "top 10" lists in consumer product reviews. Even internationally-renowned astronomer Sir Patrick Moore, who helped NASA map the moon before the Apollo 11 manned moon landings in 1969, recommends Celestron telescopes. To care for your Celestron telescope properly, keep the original box and shaped Styrofoam protective packaging for storing or moving the telescope. The simple design of Celestron telescopes makes dismantling an easy job that should not take more than five minutes.

Instructions

1. Loosen the tube clamp knob to detach the telescope tube from the fork arm.

2. Slide the telescope mounting bar out of the dovetail joint on the fork arm.

3. Place the telescope tube carefully in a storage box or, if you have it, the original packaging. Leave lens covers in place.

4. Loosen the coupling screw underneath the tripod mounting platform and remove the fork arm.

5. Detach the hand control, if your telescope is equipped with one, and unplug it from the socket on the fork arm.

6. Store the fork arm, coupling screw and hand control.

7. Remove any accessories kept on the tripod tray.

8. Unclip, remove and store the tripod tray.

9. Unscrew the tripod locking bolts and slide the tripod legs to their shortest position.

10. Retighten the tripod locking bolts, fold the tripod and store.
