Flip Video cameras are small, convenient devices for taking video on the go. They hold between 4 and 16 gigabytes of video and come with a built-in USB stick. Users have experienced problems involving the USB and the camera's software.
Camera Steadiness
Quick, jerky motions associated with hand-held camcorders are almost impossible to get rid of when using a Flip Video camera. The firmware used offers limited corrections and does not fix fast-moving scenes. The videos are converted into 3ivx codec files, which also are not able to compensate for these recording problems.
Backing Up Files
The only way to back up Flip Video files is to use the FlipShare software that comes with the camera. Backing them up in any other conventional manner will cause them to be unreadable by FlipShare in the future. However, backing files up using this software converts them into RAW files, which are compressed versions of the original, so the copies will not be exact.
Transferring Files
Transferring Flip Video files from one computer to another often results in the loss of that file. The safest way to do this is also the least convenient. It requires loading the files back onto the Flip Video camera and using that to upload the files onto the second computer, which requires installation of FlipShare and all necessary applications again. This is a time-consuming method considering the Flip Video camera holds a minimal amount of video.
