Compare Hdtv Models Before You Buy

Why HD? High definition televisions offer picture quality at a level that is almost photo-like. When you watch TV (especially HDTV channels) on an HDTV, it's a viewing experience like no other. You'll need to compare HDTV models before you buy to get the best quality at the price you want to spend.

Instructions

1. Determine how much money you are willing to spend. Prices on HDTVs vary as widely as the sizes to choose from.

2. Consider the size of the TV you are looking for. HDTVs come in a wide range of sizes and shapes ranging from 10 inches, in the LCD models, up to 80 inches in rear projection screens. But also consider depth when looking at the size you want. Typically, LCD and Plasma models are thin, in the range of 2.5 inches to 5 inches. The CRT and Rear projection models can be as thick as 20 inches, which could limit placement of the unit.

3. Compare picture qualities before you buy. Picture quality is determined by screen resolution but there are other factors in as well like the color controls. The Sony WEGA is at the top of the list as far as picture quality is concerned. Other good quality pictures can be found on Sharp AQUOS and Panasonic models.

4. Consider the connectivity of any unit before you buy. Connectivity is the ability to have multiple hookups connected directly to your HDTV without special equipment. Most brands will include one HDMI input, but several brands like the Samsung TX-S2782H will come with two inputs as standard equipment. A select few will have three or more inputs for HDMI, like the Toshiba 37HL67. For gamers or PC enthusiasts, most brands include PC inputs with their sets.

5. Think of the type of sound package you want if you have a home theater system. A sound package can be one of the trickiest components to deal with. Most HDTVs have superior sound quality and will connect with any home theater system, so this won't be an issue.

6. Check consumer reports before you buy. Visit the Consumer Search or Consumer Reports websites to model reviews before purchasing. National HDTV Ratings is a great website to get the down and dirty on the different HDTV models.

7. Shop and compare in-store demo sets. After you've decided what you want, go to show rooms and check them out for yourself. You want to make an investment that will satisfy all your needs.
