Tips & Tricks For The Epic 4g

The Samsung Epic 4G is a slider-style mobile phone with both a touchscreen display and a full Qwerty keyboard that slides out from the side. The Epic 4G came out exclusively for Sprint users in 2010. Sprint uses CDMA technology instead of GSM, so the phone does not need a SIM card to connect to the network.

Screen Options

You can edit how long your screen's backlight stays on and change the brightness level of your screen. Hit the "Home" key and then scroll to the "Menu" icon. Press "Settings," "Sound and Display" and "Screen Timeout," and pick any amount of time between 15 seconds and 30 minutes. From the "Sound and Display" screen, you can select "Brightness" and move the meter up or down to adjust brightness. "Automatic Brightness" makes the phone choose the brightness itself.

GPS

Press the "Home" button and "Menu." Scroll to "Settings" and pick "Location and Security." Make sure the "Use GPS Satellites" option is enabled so the phone will update where you are from any location. Once enabled, the GPS feature will display your current location. At any time you can save a location as your home location. From the "Location and Security" screen, enable "Use Wireless Networks" to update GPS through the Internet.

Security Options

Press the "Power" button lightly to lock the screen so you won't accidentally dial anyone. Hit the button again to disable the screen lock. The Epic 4G also has a lock code you can set up. Press "Home," scroll to "Menu" and choose "Settings." Pick "Location and Security" and choose "Set Unlock Pattern." You are given three rows of three dots. Roll your finger over a specific pattern twice to save it. You must repeat this pattern to unlock the phone once the backlight goes off.

Clearing Out Memory

Press the "Home" key, hit the "Menu" button and then select "Settings." Scroll to "Applications" and then "Manage Applications." Press the "Menu" key again and you can sort or filter all of the applications on the phone. Press the application you want and then choose "Clear Data" to erase all files associated with it. Clear out all of the memory on the phone by pressing "Home," "Menu" and "Settings." Choose "Privacy" and then "Factory Data Reset." Choose "Reset Phone" and then "Erase Everything" to finish the process.
