Clean & Repair Big Screen Televisions

Your big screen television creates the perfect environment for movies, sporting events, comedies and even gaming. However, if something goes wrong with your television set, you don't want to call in a pricey service technician. When you have problems with your picture, you can clean and repair your big screen television yourself.

Instructions

Clean a Big Screen TV

1. Wipe the screen with a dry terry-cloth towel or with a microfiber cloth to remove fingerprints and dust. Wipe gently because abrasive scrubbing could damage your screen.

2. Spray a commercial spray that is designed for the screens of big screen TVs onto your cloth. Regular household cleaners can permanently damage the screen.

3. Apply the cleaner to the screen by gently rubbing it on with your lint-free cloth. Lightly wipe the surface until there is no excess cleaner on the screen.

4. Ensure there's no reflection or glare on the big screen TV from an external light source. Glare can detract from the picture quality.

5. Turn off devices that might cause radio frequency interference. Common devices that can affect your television's picture quality are battery-operated toys, vacuum cleaners, and halogen and fluorescent light bulbs.

6. Navigate your big screen TV's menu and turn on the "Digital Noise Reduction" (DNR) function. Try turning on or off the "Digital Reality Creation" (DRC) feature. You might also try to adjust the "Sharpness" of your screen to see if it improves the quality of the picture.

7. Plug your television into a different outlet or surge protector. If the picture improves, it could be a sign of an outlet or surge protector that isn't producing the proper voltage.
