Remove A Moen L82383 Cartridge

The Moen Villeta tub faucet, or model L82383 has a disc cartridge in the handle to operate the water temperature and flow rates. This cartridge sometimes fails due to sediment build up, or scratches on the discs, which lead to leaks. The part is designed to replace with relative ease, but first it must be removed.

Instructions

1. Shut off the water to the faucet by closing the house water pipe valve on the incoming water pipe leading to your water heater.

2. Unscrew the small screw underneath the lever-style handle with an Allen wrench. Pull the handle backward to remove it from the faucet.

3. Take off the handle adapter on the end of the faucet by unscrewing the mounting screw with an Allen wrench. Slide off the stop tube kit, which is under the adapter on the end of the faucet by pulling it out of the faucet. If necessary, remove the shower trim plate from the wall, by unscrewing both screws on the trim plate with a screwdriver.

4. Take out the retaining clip, a U-shaped pin in the body of the faucet that fits over the cartridge, by prying it out with a pair of pliers.

5. Slide the cartridge out of the faucet body by grasping the end with your fingers and pulling back. If the cartridge is stuck, grip the end with a pair of pliers, rotate it to each side gently to loosen it, and pull it out. To change the cartridge, insert a new one, replace the cartridge clip and rebuild the faucet by replacing the parts in reverse order.
