Throw A Cowgirl Birthday Party

Encourage guests to dress as cowgirls to add more birthday excitement.

If your little girl wants to throw a cowgirl-themed birthday party, consider yourself lucky. A cowgirl birthday party doesn't require a whole lot of work, it can be held at your own home and it will provide special memories for years to come. By following these simple steps your daughter will be queen of the rodeo at her own cowgirl birthday party.

Instructions

1. Make your own invitations by taking plain white card stock invitations and using western-themed stickers to decorate them. If you're up for something a little more involved, consider making a pink cowboy hat stencil to trace or color on the front of invitations. Be sure to include all necessary information such as where, when and RSVP. Also, request that your guests wear cowgirl attire or jeans and a T-shirt.

2. Decide what food you're going to serve. Cake and ice cream parties are perfectly acceptable, but if a meal is expected at this party, consider your guests. If there will be many adults along with children, consider serving red chili and white chili with cornbread. Also, a chili topping bar with mini tortilla chips, crackers and cheddar and monterey jack cheese is a nice touch. Fried chicken or chicken legs and wings make great foods for kids and go along with the theme. Serve buttermilk biscuits and coleslaw on the side. Find paper bandana plates and napkins to serve the food.

3. Choose a birthday cake for your cowgirl. There are lots of Western-style cakes available for sale at bakeries or grocery stores. You can also be more adventurous and make your own cowboy hat or horseshoe shaped cake. Cow print cakes work as well; add plastic cowboy hats to the top along with a happy birthday message. You can also use an old-fashioned ice cream maker to create ice cream for your party.

4. Decorate with colorful bandanas arranged on a theme table that holds the cake and other items. Plastic cowboy hats can contain napkins or forks. Use thick rope to wrap around a chandelier, a cactus for the centerpiece, and plenty of red and white (or pink and white) balloons.

5. Decide on cowgirl games. There are several games you can play at a cowgirl party. Set up a horseshoe game and give prizes for the most points (and a surprise prize for the least). Other games include pin the tail on the horse, a cowboy hat toss into a hula hoop and a tarp covered with straw or hay and wrapped candies for a candy hunt.

6. Purchase cowboy hat or boot cookie cutters and frosting to allow the kids to decorate their own cookies. (Pink frosting is a lot of fun for this, too.) There's also a variety of crafts you can complete-kids can decorate wooden horseshoes, decorate bandanas or string wooden beads to make necklaces. More extravagant parties can include horse rides from a company or farm experienced with giving rides to children or rides on a rented mini horse merry-go-round.

7. Prepare your party favors and prizes. These can include bandanas of all colors, cowboy hats and cowboy shaped candies. Girls a little older might enjoy a mini live cactus plant to take home. You can also give prizes for the best cowgirl costume.
