E-commerce managers are an important part of an online business.


E-commerce involves selling products and services on the Internet, and e-commerce managers are essential for an online business. They plan and execute a company's plan that coincides with their mission for selling these products and services. They may sell to consumers or other businesses. Just like with a brick-and-mortar business, e-commerce managers will have to provide leadership for website development and maintenance on the Web systems. They have to perform various other duties in order to have a successful online business.


Determining Money Transactions


E-commerce managers will have to determine what kind of transactions they will accept on their website. This can include credit cards, debit cards, PC-based digital cash or money orders. They will also have to determine how much money people can spend on their website. There should be consideration on using security measures, such as creating digital signatures, encryption or firewalls. This will help prevent hacking and identity theft from occurring on the website.


Determining Delivery Methods


E-commerce managers also have to make decisions on how consumers or businesses will receive products or services. These managers have to decide on UPS ground, FedEx, United States Postal Service or other freight delivery companies. They have to determine the mail delivery costs and the cost of taxes in different states. Managers also have to determine if they will allow international shipments to occur on their website, along with any necessary costs. E-commerce managers should also plan on how the company should handle returns, including return shipping fees and method of delivery.


Website Development


E-commerce managers are a vital part of the site development process, and should decide which website template or style will be used to best target their chosen audience. They also have to determine how they're going to display their products and services. Managers have to decide on any links consumers or businesses will need in order to navigate easily around the website. Plus, they should include any information on shipping, returns and ordering information. Consumers and businesses should also see contact information in case they need help with their order. E-commerce managers must effectively communicate their ideas with a team of developers.
