Mix up the traditional bridal shower with homemade gag gifts.
Bridal showers are often formal or semi-formal affairs. The games and activities at these events can be predictable and boring. If the bride in your life has a sense of humor and adventure, she will appreciate receiving homemade gag gifts at her shower. As long as you also give the bride a useful gift, homemade gag gifts can add an element of entertainment to any bridal shower.
Natural Bubble Bath
Fill a small bag with dried beans. Use an assortment of beans and decorate the bag as beautifully as you can, to make the gift even more funny. The package should look elegant. Make a card to attach to the bag with the following instructions: Boil 8 cups of water in a large pot. Add beans. Cook beans for two hours and season as desired. Remove beans from pot and consume. Wait one hour. Fill a bath with hot water. Get in the tub and let nature give you all-natural bubbles for your bath.
Photo Printing
One way to offer a gag gift at a bridal shower is to give the bride a gift that is really tacky. Take a photo of the couple---the more unflattering or compromising, the better---and find a company that will screen print the image onto a bath towel, oven mitt, portrait or some other household item. Present the gift to the bride as if it were a normal gift. Enjoy her expression as she tries to act grateful for your thoughtful gift.
Marriage Survival Kit
Find a medium-sized box that looks like a first aid kit. Rename the box the Marriage Survival Kit. Fill the kit with items such as whistles, a white flag, a mini-ball and chain or rope for tying the spouse to a chair, rolling pin, skimpy lingerie, a cookbook and anything else that you can think of to add that would amuse the party guests and the bride. You can also make this a Honeymoon Survival Kit instead, and fill the kit with absurd lingerie and intimacy props.
Brown Bags
Another fun way to give everyone a chance to enjoy the gag gifts is to assemble several oddly-shaped brown bags full of funny gag gifts before the party. Allow party guests to guess what prizes are in the bags and bid on them. The person who bids the highest for each bag gets to take the bag home. The bride gets to take all of the money to use for the wedding or her newly married life.
