Apply Fabric To A Vinyl Roller Shade

Instead of looking at the same old boring, plain vinyl roller shade hanging in your window, liven it up with fabric of your choice to customize and enhance your decor. With just a few supplies, a plain vinyl roller shade can be transformed in a small amount of time. Look for most of the supplies in your favorite fabric store.

Instructions

1. Lay the roller shade on a flat, clean surface and unroll completely. Leave the wooden stick in the roller shade. Make sure the front face of the shade is facing you,as this will be the surface on which the fabric is applied.

2. Place your fabric over the shade, and cut to fit, leaving about two inches overlapping on the sides of the shade and on the bottom. Set fabric aside.

3. Spray the shade with a light coating of the spray adhesive.

4. Place the fabric, design side up as straight as possible onto the front of the shade, smoothing out wrinkles as you go. It helps to work from the top to bottom.

5. Flip the shade over, and glue the edges down with the fabric glue.

6. Cut a slit in the corners of the fabric to make them fold down neatly.

7. Allow to dry for a few minutes.

8. Use a needle and thread to secure the fabric on each end of the shade and in the middle.

9. Cut a piece of cording the width of the shade, and glue onto the lowest edge of the shade. Secure with a few stitches using the needle and thread.

10. Attach a decorative tassel in the middle of the bottom edge with your needle and thread.

11. Flip the shade over and trim any loose thread or rough edges of fabric. You can optionally cover the fabric edges with ribbon.
