Nissan 180 Sx Specs

Buyers may confuse the Nissan 180SX with the more common and less expensive Nissan Silvia model. The two vehicles are actually not entirely different cars, as they share the same mechanical bits, chassis and interior treatment. The difference between the two vehicles is simply aesthetic; they feature different body styles. The Nissan 180SX is a fast-back design with a sloping rear section as in the Porsche 944, while the Silvia is a traditional coupe design with a well-defined box trunk as in a standard sedan.

Drivetrain

The Nissan 180SX has a four-cylinder engine with an inline-cylinder configuration and 2.4 liters of displacement. This motor uses a four-valve per cylinder design, totaling sixteen valves with a single overhead-camshaft design. The engine has a 3.41-inch bore, 3.94-inch stroke and a compression ratio of 9 to 1. The 180 SX's engine uses a multi-port fuel injection system to bring output to 140 horsepower at 5,500 rpm and 155 ft.-lbs. of torque at 4,000 rpm. Nissan offers a choice of five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmissions.

Exterior Dimensions and Weight

The Nissan 180SX has a curb weight of 2,700 lbs. and sits on a 97.4-inch wheelbase with a 57.7-inch front track and a 57.5-inch rear track. The body of this vehicle has an overall length of 178 inches from front bumper to rear bumper, with a body width of 66.5 inches at its widest point, not including side view mirrors, and a height of 50.8 inches. The compact wheelbase of the 180SX gives it a 30.8-foot turning diameter. The sports coupe uses 195/60R15 size tires.

Interior Dimensions

The cabin of this two-door, four-seat sport coupe offers occupants of its dual front bucket seats 31.8 inches of head room, 42 inches of leg room, 52 inches of shoulder room and 50.7 inches of hip room. Passengers riding in the Nissan 180SX's rear coupe-style benchseat have 34.5 inches of head room, 23.8 inches of leg room, 52 inches of shoulder room and 42.4 inches of hip room.

Fuel Economy

The Nissan 180SX's front-engine, rear-wheel drive platform and relatively light weight allow it to yield 20 mpg in the city and between 26 and 27 mpg on the highway. It has a 15.9-gallon fuel tank.
