The Jvc 10 Disc Changer Display Won'T Light Up

An illuminated JVC changer display lets you see which disc is playing.

A JVC 10-disc CD changer for a car or truck lets you load plenty of music for a road trip. If the changer display won't light up, you might find it's next to impossible to select a disc for playback, if the stereo will even play at all. Before uninstalling your stereo system and taking it to a repair shop, troubleshoot the in-dash head unit and connections to the CD changer, which is typically installed in the trunk. The problem might involve nothing more than a simple fuse replacement.

Instructions

1. Slide the vehicle key in the ignition switch and turn clockwise to the "Acc" setting or start the vehicle.

2. Press the "Power" button on the head unit to start the stereo. The front panel of the head unit on a JVC system under normal operation illuminates with a green and blue LED display. If it does not, continue troubleshooting.

3. Slide open the CD changer cover toward the back of the unit to expose the magazine that holds your discs. The CD changer is usually installed in the trunk and held down by two brackets.

4. Press the eject button to pop up the magazine. Push gently on the magazine to reinstall the unit and slide the cover closed. Check the display again.

5. Turn off the ignition and remove the key.

6. Disconnect the negative battery cable from the vehicle's battery terminal using pliers or a wrench.

7. Open the fusible link compartment in the power wire that runs from your JVC head unit to the battery by pressing the plastic tab to lift off the cover. The fusible link is a cylindrical shape in the power wire near the battery cable.

8. Remove the glass fuse inside and inspect it to determine whether the wire inside the fuse is broken or whether the glass is discolored, indicating the fuse is burned out.

9. Replace with a new fuse rated identically in amps to the old fuse. Close the fusible link.

10. Reconnect the battery cable to the negative terminal and start the vehicle to check the LED display. If it still does not illuminate, the display or the stereo head unit might need repairs or replacement.
