The Tomtom Won'T Charge

TomTom manufactures a line of GPS, or global positioning systems. GPS units guide you to a destination set in the unit through a series of visual and verbal directions. Using satellite technology and tracking systems that can track your position and movement, the unit can customize directions based on your whereabouts and current position. The device can be powered using power adapters or a battery.

Instructions

1. Hold down the power button to turn on the device. If the device does not turn on, the battery is dead. If the device does turn on, leave the unit on until the battery is completely drained and the unit shuts off.

2. Insert the power adapter into the cigarette lighter of your vehicle. Plug the USB jack on the power adapter into the TomTom USB port.

3. Turn on your vehicle. The TomTom should now be charging. Depending on the model of TomTom GPS unit, the charging indicator light will either flash or display a solid colored light to indicate the unit is charging. If the light does not turn on, hold down the power button to turn the unit on. If the unit does not turn on, it is not receiving power and the power adapter cord is not working correctly. Replace the cord. If the problems persist, take the TomTom to an authorized repair shop.

4. Allow the battery to fully charge. A discharged TomTom battery will take approximately two hours to fully charge. Remove the TomTom from the charger.

5. Hold down the power button to turn the unit on. If the unit still does not turn on, reset the device. Insert a straightened paperclip into the reset hole on the back of the unit. Hold down the button for five seconds before releasing the button. Repeat the steps. If the unit still does not power on, take the TomTom to an authorized repair shop for more extensive troubleshooting. The USB port may need to be replaced, the battery may need to be replaced or there may be internal damage.
