Connect A Jensen Peq70x Passive Graphic Equalizer

The Jensen PQX-70x will work with any aftermarket stereo system using an amplifier.

Want more control? The Jensen PEQ-70x passive graphic equalizer allows for customization of all the frequencies and levels a car stereo can produce. The ultimate in control for the sound in any vehicle, this small unit can be placed within reach of the driver and tweak the sound of any music. Operating more than seven bands of frequencies and having three pre-amp outputs, this equalizer will offer almost any vehicle with an aftermarket stereo system a sound upgrade.

Instructions

Installation

1. Disconnect the vehicle's positive battery terminal to prevent damage. Remove the vehicle's aftermarket stereo head unit using the appropriate tools that came with the head unit.

2. Find a suitable place to mount the PEQ-70x. Mount the equalizer per the manufacturer's instructions.

3. Locate the red power wire, black ground wire and blue remote turn on wire in the after market wiring harness leading to the head unit. Cut these wires being sure to leave a long enough lead on both ends for reconnection.

4. Strip the insulation from both ends of the black, red and blue wires about 3/16-inch. Also strip the ends of the same colored wires in the wiring harness for the Jensen PEQ-70x about 3/16-inch.

5. Cut three pieces of appropriate-sized heat shrink tubing 1 1/2 inches long and slide them up the vehicle end of the three cut wires in the vehicle's wiring harness. If using electrical tape, omit this step.

6. Twist together the stripped ends of the red wire from the Jensen PEQ-70x and the red wire leading to the head unit. Do the same with the black and blue wires from the equalizer and the head unit.

7. Connect the newly twisted together wires to the same color wires leading into the vehicle's wiring harness using appropriately sized butt splice connectors and wire-crimping pliers

8. Seal the connections by sliding the heat-shrink tubing over the butt splice connectors and heating it with a heat gun. If using electrical tape, then wrap tightly with tape.

9. Run the appropriate RCA cables from the head unit pre-amp outputs to the Jensen PEQ-70x's pre-amp inputs matching red terminals to red wires and white to white. Run the appropriate RCA cables from the equalizers pre-amp outputs to the amplifiers that provide power to the front, rear and sub-woofer speakers making sure to match the color codes.

10. Reconnect the vehicle's power cable to the positive battery terminal. Turn on the vehicle's head unit and test the equalizer and components.
