Pro Form Treadmill Maintenance

Pro-Form makes two kinds of treadmills: One that requires maintenance and one that is manufactured to be maintenance-free. Before you attempt any kind of routine maintenance, check with your owners manual. Attempting maintenance on a maintenance-free treadmill will do more harm than good. If you own a treadmill that needs maintenance, it is a reasonably straightforward process.

Basic Maintenance

Wipe off your treadmill console daily with a damp rag. This will keep dust and debris from getting into the electronics and causing false readings. If the console constantly resets or the readings are showing incorrectly, the chances are that the batteries need to be changed. There is no set maintenance schedule for changing batteries, since the more you use the machine, the faster the batteries will drain and need to be replaced. Place dust mats below the treadmill motor area to collect the dust and keep it from getting into the mechanism. These mats can be pulled out and vacuumed, then replaced.

Advanced Maintenance

On Pro-Form treadmills that are not maintenance-free, you will need to preform some maintenance on the belt. If the belt begins to slow down or make excessive noise, lubricate it with silicone spray. To do this, lift up one side of a non-moving belt and spray a one- or two-second discharge from the can. Move to the other side of the belt and do the same thing, then turn on the treadmill to allow the lubrication to circulate.

Eventually, your belt will become loose and begin to slip. On most Pro-Form treadmills there are adjustment bolts or Allen screws on the lower rear of the treadmill to tighten the belt. Turn each bolt clockwise to tighten, giving the exact same turn for both of them to maintain symmetry. Once finished, the belt itself should pull up no more than 3 or 4 inches on each side.
