Front load frigidaire washer making noises not spinning well

Front load Frigidaire washer, making noises, not spinning well...

Can you help me trouble-shoot this? Thumping and groaning noises throughout the wash cycle whenever the tub is turning. Spinning is hit or miss, mostly miss. Clothes come out wet, like when it's an unbalanced load. Since I recently surrounded the washer and dryer with kitchen cabinets and put a countertop over them, I'm kinda hoping that getting to the failed part will be the hardest part of the repair. Maybe a belt or something? Should I start by removing the bottom (kick) panel, since the top is a bear to get to? Model GSTF1670A50 Serial XC33607799 Thanks. Reach in the washer and spin the basket by hand. Dose it make noise? turn basket by hand and feel if it feels rough. wiggle basket dose it move in tub ? Is the front boot deformed (wrinkled more than usual) ? Take off lower panel and look at shocks, see if any are broken. Usual problem with your washer is a bad bearing. Get your owners manual out and check warranty info. Basket and bearings are either 10 years or lifetime, Have to pay labor. hey pugsl, thanks for the reply. The basket DOES make noise and wiggle in the tub. Front boot is deformed at around 2 o'clock, like the basket's leaning forward at that point. Everything underneath, including both shocks, looks good, and warranty is 25 years for replacement part for inner wash basket that breaks due to a defect in materials or workmanship (1 year full, 5 years motor, driven pulley or motor controller). So what do I do now? Can you tell what part it might be? Do I have to remove the basket, and if so, how? You will need a basket and rear tub, Washer needs to bed completely disassembled to repair. Should be a phone number to call and ask them what to do. Think they will send you parts so you can do job but they may want a pro to do it. 2 men about 2 to 3 hours, Look aty boot and see if there is a clamp holding it on around door. Look at bottom in groove there will be a small spring in there. If boot is glued on (not likely unless over 8 years old) you will also need the boot. this might be heresy on the DIY forum, but maybe replacement at $500 is a better option? Frigidaire says You will need to have an authorized service provider come out to diagnose the issue. If it is the drum, then we will cover the parts for the repair, which might mean I have to pay someone to look first, then either DIY or pay him again to install. If parts are covered, the rear outer tub shell (#22 below) is $210 and inner tub assembly (with spider and shaft, #16) is $259, so that would help. Sears claims Give you an estimate before we begin work, and the last time I had them here (for a TV with an extended warranty), I was impressed that the connected to the manufacturer via phone and internet and had the part on the truck! Your 2 men about 2 to 3 hours comment has me thinking I'm likely over my head here and should spend the money either for the repair labor or new washer. If parts are covered and I spend a couple of hundred, I still have a 10 year old washer..... Call Sears they have a 129$ option for labor, It will cover the 2 men for how ever long. Be sure to tell the tech. you know parts under warranty. Door boot not covered if needed. Tub and basket covered. well, replacement turns out to be more like $800, so I did schedule Sears service. My guess is that there'll be some gaskets and that boot that won't be covered, but I should still have a shot at staying under $200. Thanks for your help. I have run across a do it yourself video and website that reall helped me. Alot of times the problem is a failed seal which messes up the bearings on the outer tub. Then most of the time you have to buy the outer tub to get the parts that is really the problem. And that is spendy. The video shows you take the washer apart and replace the bearings and seals. Its great! Look up Yellow Van Handyman Repair Video. Its alot easier then you would think. I have read several of the threads about making a loud sound in the final spin cycle. It seams as if the machine is off balance. My first thought was the bearings also. After inspection the bearings seem to be find supported by visual inspection and the drum spins find with the exception of the start of the final spin. If you stop the cycle let the drum come to a complete stop and then restart, the cycle will finish with no problem. Not sure if the noise comes from spinning only in one particular direction. My thought would be that maybe one or both of the shocks are bad and the lack of support during the tougher final spin throughs it off balance. Thoughts please. You would see if a shock is bad ( it would be broken usually at the top) Take lower panel off and look. Turn basket by hand if it feels rough the bearing is bad, Also try to move basket up and down any movement of basket without tub moving the bearing is bad, Almost always the bearing causes noise. I went through this with my 8 year old frigidaire model 1670 something about a month ago. Problems started with thumping noises on spin cycle and eventually it kept throwing the belt. There was very noticeable play when tugging on the drum pulley. It wound up being the outer drum bearing that basically disintegrated. The inner bearing that has a seal was fine. I took the rear half of the plastic drum shell to a bearing shop and it took them all of 2 minutes to measure it and supply me with the new bearing for 28 dollars. It wasn't terribly hard to replace. The two main problems were getting the old bearing out since only the outer ring was left in the housing. I used a dremel cutting wheel to slice through it and then was able to use a hammer and screwdriver to knock it out. Theres hardly any lip exposed on the bearing to use anything larger than that. Getting a couple of the clamps back on, especially the boot on the soap dispenser outlet was also a pain because of the limited space. I used some 2x4 and 4x4 sections of wood to support the drum while disconnecting the two lower shocks and two upper springs. This also makes reassembly easier and helps protect the water pump from getting crushed when the drum is loose. To get the push pins out of the shocks I pulled on the head with a pliers while pinching in the little tabs that are on the other pin end. Also, put the rubber boot back on the drum before reassembly and then back onto the door opening after the drum is back in place. Washer runs as good as new now. All good ideas I also use a 1/2 socket over pins to hold in tabs to pull the pins. any thoughts on what i should do to fix this washer, i opened the back and saw that the belt had come off and after looking at the belt very closely, determined that it was still in very good use...what i did think was strange was how the belt has been eating away and made a very strong grove in the plastic of the rear out drum assembly...any thought as to make the belt from not coming off, i tried like a dozen times to put the belt back on, but as i turn the pulley it just slides off, i gues it's an alignment issue...please help we just bought the house and moved in only to have the washer die on us after 2 loads...and we just had a second child and the wife really need to use the wash...help What you have is a bad bearing in tub. Look down through these post there is a picture and some info for you. Tub has 10 year warranty and basket is life time. Have to pay for labor. I don't know if it is covered as second owner. Now you know why washer was left in house, problem was there for a long time. Will have to call frigidaire.
