Cancel A Mervyns Credit Card

Cutting up your credit card ensures it can no longer be used.

Mervyns, LLC began operating department stores in the United States in 1949 and is a former subsidiary of Target Corporation. In 2008, Mervyns filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and permanently closed all its stores. Mervyns credit cards, however, were issued by GE Money Bank, which is a separate company that is still in operation.

If you have a Mervyns credit card, you are still responsible for paying any remaining balance. You will no longer be able to use the card for new purchases.

Instructions

1. Call GE Money Bank at 1-800-480-5014 or use the customer service number listed on the back of your card. Tell the customer service representative you would like to cancel your card. After giving the representative necessary information, she will confirm your account is canceled. Even though it is officially canceled, you need to continue to pay off your balance. Your account will officially close only when any remaining balance is paid.

2. Cut your Mervyns Credit Card into thirds and dispose of the pieces separately, or shred the card in a paper shredder to help protect you from identity theft or fraud.

3. Contact Mervyn's credit department directly if you have questions or concerns regarding your credit card cancellation. The contact information can be found in the Resource section. If using the Internet, you will be asked to enter your credit card number. After entering the number, click on Next, and follow the instructions.

Tips Warnings

Continue paying your Mervyn's credit card bills by making the minimum payment, or more, on time. Even though the company closed, you are still responsible for your debt.

Failure to pay your credit card balance will result in a delinquent account and a damaged credit profile.
