If you have an email account, you can send free text messages to just about anyone. Each wireless carrier delivers email text messages to its customers, including Verizon. The process is the same, but the details vary.
Instructions
1. Sending free text messages is as easy as composing an email. To begin, open your computer and log in to your email account. Open a blank message.
2. Where you would normally put the email address, type the 10-digit cellphone number of the person to whom you want to send the text message. Do not add a 1 in front of the number or include any spaces.
3. To email a text message to a Verizon wireless customer, type @vtext.com directly after the phone number.
4. Depending on the length of the text message, you can type it in either the subject line or in the body of the email. Only the first 160 characters are sent as a text.
5. Press send and the text message is delivered immediately.
