Change A Vehicle On A Garmin Nuvi

A Garmin Nuvi is great for getting driving directions, or finding local restaurants and other points of interest but the Garmin Nuvi also has some other features beyond turn by turn directions. One of these features is the ability to customize the vehicle you see on the map. You can do this with either a few default options or by downloading vehicles off the internet.

Instructions

1. Turn on your Garmin Nuvi by sliding the power button on the top right of the device. Once it loads and you reach the main menu page select the wrench icon on the lower left of the screen. Then select "settings" and scroll down to select "maps." In the Maps screen select "change" under the vehicle section.

2. Scroll through and select the car of your choice. Default typically offers three different vehicles and the standard blue arrow. To change a vehicle choose one and if it shows up on the map press "OK" and your vehicle will be changed.

3. Go to the Garmin vehicle download page (see Resources) for other vehicle options. Here you can select a new vehicle by searching through the various bundles. Once you find a vehicle you like you need to plug your Garmin Nuvi into your computer using the included USB cable. Download the vehicle you want then open the compressed folder and choose "extract all files" from the top left menu. Proceed through the extraction wizard and click finish.

4. Go to My Computer then click and open the drive associated with your Garmin Nuvi. Open up the vehicle folder on your Garmin drive and click extract again. The downloaded vehicle will now get sent to your Garmin device, once the process is finished click "eject" then follow through the steps.

5. To change to your downloaded vehicle repeat the process from Step 1 and select the downloaded vehicle once it appears on the map to the right press "OK."
