Adding a camera to a rifle involves mounting it, so it works the same way as a regular rifle scope.
While a camera mounted on a rifle scope does not tend to be the most common way to use a video camera, it can serve some benefit. Setting up this sort of construction can provide video of hunting exploits, it can be used to develop training guides on aim a rifle, or it can be used as a scope itself without having to blind one eye to use it. The process involves simple steps and few basic tools typically available in a household.
Instructions
1. Locate all the necessary equipment including the video camera, rifle scope and adapter lens rings. Spread out the parts on a worktable under good lighting. Take the cover cap off the video camera and put it aside for the moment.
2. Take the first adapter lens and make sure it's the right size to screw into the back end of the rifle scope. Twist it onto the scope. Take the next adapter ring and screw it into the first adapter ring on the scope, providing a step-down size. Make sure the second ring matches the first and lowers down to the correct size on the video camera lens.
3. Take the video camera and screw it into the second adapter ring on the scope, twisting it until the camera is securely tight on the two rings and the scope. Use a glue or resin to keep the assembly screwed in and together. Wrap up the connected parts with tape to prevent dust from getting in.
Lay the whole assembly on the table. Point the scope away from you with the back of the video camera facing you. Turn the video camera on. Confirm that the image it sees on the monitor is the visual coming through the scope.
4. Turn off the camera and secure the whole assembly to the rifle it will be attached to. Attach it through the scope as it would normally be installed. Take the rifle assembly and point it at a target. Turn on the camera and confirm the visual data feed coming through the camera is consistent with what should be seen through the scope. Use the camera scope as needed for practice shooting or videotaping of hunting.
