Having a single remote control for the many devices that make up your home entertainment center can eliminate the hassle of using a singular remote for each device and help to avoid the stress of misplacing or losing one of many remotes. The RCA Niteglo line of universal remotes offers easy functionality and the ability to control several devices at once. Programming your remote to work with your television is as easy as knowing the code for the brand of TV you want to couple the remote with and following a few simple steps. Alternatively, you can try the code search method that automatically determines and assigns the correct remote code. The basic procedure for most RCA remotes follows, though certain models may vary in the exact steps.
Instructions
Programming the Remote with a Code
1. Identify the codes by brand (such as Sony, LG or Panasonic) for your TV. These can be found in the original manual for the remote. If you have misplaced the manual, the codes can easily be located on several websites provided in the Resources section of this article.
2. Turn on the TV you wish to couple with the remote.
3. Check to make sure there are fresh, working batteries in your remote.
4. Press the "TV" button on the remote, and hold it through the following steps. The "On/Off" button should light up and remain lit.
5. Enter the code for your TV and brand with the number pad on the remote. If the indicator light turns off, you have successfully entered the new code. You may release the device button at this point. A rapidly flashing light means you have mis-entered the code. In this case, return to Step 4 and begin the process again.
6. Test the remote with your TV by pressing the "On/Off" button. The TV should power off if the right code has been entered. If it doesn't, go back to Step 4 and repeat this process using the next code listed for your brand. If this still does not work you may want to try automatically searching for the remote code as explained below.
Programming the Remote Using Automatic Code Search

8. Press the "Code Search" button and hold the button in. When the indicator light turns on you may release the "Code Search" button.
9. Press the "TV" button and release. The indicator light will blink and light up.
10. Point the remote at your TV and press the "On/Off" button until your TV turns off. This may take many attempts while the remote searches for the correct code, sometimes up to 200 presses of the button.
11. After you have found a code that successfully turns off your TV, press the "Enter" button to save the code.
