Write Protect Sony Memory Stick Pro Duos

Write Protect Sony Memory Stick Pro Duos

Sony Memory Stick Pro Duos are compact, portable flash storage devices that can support a large amount of data. The devices are used in cameras, camcorders, personal media players and portable gaming devices. The cards also can be used like a regular flash drive to store important documents and media. It is possible to write protect your Memory Stick Pro Duo, which will make it impossible for data on the drive to be altered in any way. Write protection also will prevent data from being moved on or off the device. Write protecting your Memory Stick Pro Duo is simple and should only take a few minutes.

Instructions

1. Check the back of your Memory Stick Pro Duo to determine if it contains a write protection switch. This switch is included on most Memory Stick Pro Duo cards made after the year 2005. This switch is a small tab on the bottom of the card that can be toggled on and off.

2. Connect your Memory Stick Pro Duo to your computer if it does not feature a Write Protection switch. Insert it into your memory stick to USB converter. Insert the converter in your computer's USB slot.

3. Open "My Computer." Locate the memory stick under "Removable Storage Devices."

4. Right-click the memory stick. Select "Properties" from the right-click menu.

5. Click on the "Sharing" tab. Select "Advanced Sharing."

6. Click the box next to "Share this Folder." Click on the button labeled "Permissions." Click "Deny Change" to write-protect the drive. Click "Deny Read" to make its contents hidden. When you have made the desired changes, click "Apply" to close the permissions window and save your changes. To revert to original settings, enter the same menu and select "Allow Read" or "Allow Change."
