Edit Digital Picture Size

Image editing software allows for increasing and decreasing picture size.

Many reasons may lead someone to choose to edit the size of a digital picture. Whether reducing the picture's file size to make it simpler to email or increasing it so it can be used as computer wallpaper, the altering process is accomplished through the use of image editing software. The software, such as Microsoft Office Picture Manager or Adobe Photoshop, can be purchased or utilized through free online resources.

Instructions

1. Open the picture to be resized using image editing software.

2. Select the "Edit Pictures" option if using Microsoft Office Picture Manager. Wording of commands in other image editing software may differ.

3. Click on either "Resize" or "Compress Pictures" in the "Change Picture Size" menu. Resizing the dimension of the picture results in either an increase or decrease in the number of pixels in the image. Compressing the picture allows you to create a smaller sized file that can be used in a document, uploaded to an Internet web page or attached to an email.

4. Change the picture's size. When resizing a picture, you may select one of the predetermined sizes, type in the size you wish for a custom height, or reduce or increase the file size by using a percent. When compressing a picture, select from one of three size options: Documents, Web Pages or Email Messages.

5. Click on "OK."
