Fix A Digital Camera Dropped Into Water

Fix a Digital Camera Dropped Into Water

Digital cameras are convenient, but unfortunately accidents can happen. Contact with water is a fast way to ruin a digital camera. Dropping a camera into water will cause damage and usually voids the warranty, resulting in the need for expensive repairs or replacement. If the exposure to water is limited, it may be possible to restore the camera to working condition with some patience. While major repairs need to be performed by a qualified expert, a few simple steps can be taken at home to see if your camera will be able to work again.

Instructions

1. Turn the camera off. You do not want any power going to the wet circuitry. Your camera has a better chance of surviving immersion if there was no power to cause a short circuit when it fell in the water.

2. Remove the batteries and the memory card from the camera. Leave the battery compartment and memory card slot open so that any accumulated water can evaporate.

3. Wipe any external water from the camera and remove any lenses or attachments, if possible. This will prevent further condensation from forming in the camera.

4. Place the camera in a bowl and cover it with dry white rice. The rice will absorb moisture. Check the rice every few days, until the rice is dry and there is no sign of moisture.

5. Replace the batteries and memory card, then turn on the camera. If the camera does not work, it may require more extensive repair performed by a professional.
