For many people, the price of a flash that works with their camera system is simply too high. While these flashes offer reliable, dedicated compatibility, the consumer also has to pay for this guarantee. The Bower SFD926 helps to solve this problem by offering compatibility with most cameras' internal metering and triggering system.
Guide Number
A guide number is simply a measure of a flash's power. It is determined by the maximum distance at which a flash can illuminate a subject when you're using a film of a specific speed or a sensor set to a specific sensitivity--ASA/ISO 100, in nearly all cases. In the case of the Bower SFD926, the flash has a guide number of 125 feet or 38 meters when zoomed out to its farthest length. While this is less power than some flashes, it's certainly enough for most applications.
Zoom Capability
Most flashes, including the Bower SFD926, can be zoomed in and out, allowing the user to focus or widen the beam of light emanating from the flash. On the Bower, you can zoom out to 24 mm, which should allow you to cover the angle of view of a 24mm lens on a 35mm film camera with uninterrupted light. The flash zooms out to 85 mm, which will cover an 85mm lens or allow you to focus your light on a specific point in the picture when using a wider-angle lens or lens setting.
Compatibility
The Bower SFD926 is made to be compatible with certain manufacturers' cameras. For example, the Canon version of the flash is made to work with the E-TTL and triggering system used by Canon camera and flashes while also snuggly fitting the hot-shoe mount on the camera and attaching properly. Bower makes flashes compatible with cameras from all major manufacturers, including Nikon, Canon, Pentax, Olympus and Sony.
Wireless Use
The Bower SFD926 can also be used wirelessly with most camera systems that offer wireless flash triggering and metering, most notably Nikon's groundbreaking CLS system. This allows the user to get more creative, working with off-camera flash to illuminate the image in ways that would simply not be possible with a flash that is attached to a camera. Of course, the SFD926 can also be used with any external triggering systems such as Pocket Wizards or Skyports.
