Olympus is one of the leading manufacturers of digital cameras, especially in the compact digital market. Olympus' compact (point-and-shoot) digital cameras and digital SLRs use two primary media types.
XD Cards
Most Olympus digital cameras use xD memory cards, which range in size from 16 MB -- for older cameras and digital recorders -- to 2 GB. The FE-Series digital cameras exclusively use xD cards, as do the SP-series and all of the Stylus cameras. Olympus' line of DSLR cameras, the E-series, use xD cards in the E-3, E-30, E-420, E-520, E-600 and E-620 models. Some C- and D-series cameras can use xD cards, too.
SD Cards
Some Olympus cameras also use SD cards. The high-end DSLR cameras support SDHC (high-capacity) cards, which have a minimum capacity of 4 GB. These cards are best in DSLR cameras because the file sizes (especially in RAW shooting mode) are bigger than with point-and-shoot cameras.
MicroSD Cards
A handful of Olympus cameras are also compatible with microSD and microSDHC cards, so long as a card adapter is used. The FE-series of cameras can use micro cards, as can the Stylus 1010, 1020, 1030 SW, 1040, 1050SW, 840, 850 SW, 550 WP, 7000, 7001, 9000 and the Stylus Tough 6000 and 8000. These cameras also support third-party SD and microSD cards from Toshiba and SanDisk.
