The transition to digital TV has come with changes to both the TV broadcasting and viewing experience. One of the more prominent changes is local TV broadcasters can broadcast more material within their allotted frequency bandwidth. This means viewers have more local TV channels from which to choose, though not all of these channels are picked up by cable TV providers. By hooking up both a cable box tuner and a digital converter box tuner to a TV set, you get the benefit of enjoying all the local TV channels available to you, in addition to your cable channels.
Instructions
Connect Cable Box to TV
1. Keep the television turned off while you make your cable connections.
2. Make sure the coaxial cable coming from the wall is screwed into the "RF In" port (typically labeled "Cable In") on the back of the cable box. This cable carries the main TV signal.
3. Screw one end of the standalone coaxial cable into the cable box's "RF Out" port. Screw the other end of this cable into the "RF In" port on the back of the TV.
Connect Digital Converter Box to TV
4. Keep the television turned off while you make your cable connections.
5. Use the set of A/V cables to connect the "A/V Out" jacks on the back of the digital converter box (the red, white and yellow jacks) to the "A/V In" jacks on the TV. A/V cables are color-coded. Each A/V plug is supposed to go into the A/V jack that shares its color.
6. Connect the coaxial cable coming out of the TV antenna into the digital converter box's "RF In" port (typically labeled "Ant. In").
Set Up
7. Turn on the TV and set it to Channel 3. Turn on the cable box. Turn on the digital converter box.
8. Use the "Input" button on the television remote to change the TV's video input channel to the A/V source: the digital converter box (hooked up to the TV through the A/V port).
9. Press "Menu" on the digital converter box remote control. Locate and select the "Channel Scan" option. You need to perform a channel scan in order to program the converter box to pick up your local TV channels.
