View Surveillance Cameras On Tv

Cables with pre-molded phono plugs are available, or you can solder plugs to a coaxial cable.

Surveillance cameras, often called closed-circuit television or CCTV cameras, have become quite affordable, making it feasible for you to place internal and external cameras around your home. Typically, these cameras are viewed on a dedicated monitor, which isn't practical in the home. Viewing the feed from your surveillance equipment on your TV set is a more efficient option. TVs or video recording equipment with a composite input can connect directly to a surveillance camera to display the live image.

Instructions

1. Position and mount your surveillance camera in a suitable location, following the installation instructions provided by the manufacturer.

2. Run a 75-ohm coaxial cable between the camera and your TV. Strip the cable at the TV end and solder the solid core to the central pin inside the phono plug. Twist the braiding inside the coaxial cable into a single wire and solder it to the outer pin of the phono plug.

3. Connect the cable to the camera as detailed in its instruction manual. This will vary depending on the make and model of camera. If the camera has a phono socket output, solder a phono plug to the end of the cable as you did at the TV side and plug it into the camera. If the camera uses screw terminals, strip the coaxial cable and screw the solid core into the video output terminal. Twist the braid into a single wire and screw it into the ground terminal.

4. Connect the phono plug to the composite input of your TV set. The yellow socket is the video input. Two identical sockets are nearby, one red and the other white. These are audio inputs and they're not required for viewing the surveillance camera feed.

5. Power up the camera and turn on the TV. Switch the TV to the composite input channel to view the feed from your surveillance camera.
