Transfer An 8mm Video To A Dvd

The 8mm video was a popular recording format for analog and digital camcorders at the end of the 1990s and beginning of the 2000s. It was replaced by MiniDV, which is in the process of being replaced by hard drive camcorders (HDD) and flash-based camcorders. However, if you have old footage on an 8mm tape or are still using the 8mm format, you can easily transfer that footage onto digital video disc (DVD) for viewing on most modern entertainment systems.

Instructions

1. Insert the video capture card into your PC's PCI card slot. The capture card should have composite video inputs and will be used to transfer video to your PC.

2. Install and run your video capture software. It should have been packaged with the video capture card.

3. Some older professional cameras use the 8mm format.

Insert the 8mm tape with the footage into your 8mm camcorder.

4. Make sure you match the colors of the inputs to the correct colors of the cable heads.

Connect the camcorder to the video capture card with the composite video and audio cables. Match the colors appropriately; the cable with the red head must go into the input with the red ring, the white head into the input with the white ring and the yellow head into the input with the yellow ring.

5. Power on the camera and turn it to its VCR mode and press "play."

6. The footage from the camera should begin playing on your computer. Press "REC" on your video capture software to record the footage. When it's finished, press "STOP" and save the recorded footage as a video file on your computer.

7. Insert a blank DVD-R disc into your DVD burner. If the DVD burner is external, you will need to connect it to your computer via a USB cable.

8. Open your DVD-burning software, which should come standard on all modern computers and available with any DVD burner, and add the video file to the blank disc and press "BURN".

9. When the DVD has finished burning, you may remove the disc from the drive.
