Repair Corrupt Memory

Broken and corrupt memory cards


Memory cards are used in all kinds of digital devices, from cameras to mobile phones. On occasion the data on memory cards can become corrupted. This can happen for a number of reasons, including physical damage to the card, battery failure during data transmission or incorrect removal of the card from a device. However, it is possible to retrieve some or all the data on the card, provided the card is still recognized by a computer.


Instructions


1. Connect the memory card to the card reader, and insert the card reader in a USB port on your computer. If your computer has a built-in card reader, simply insert the card in the SD slot in your computer.


2. Open a data recovery program. There are many available online, including at CardRecovery, Zero Assumption Recover and PC Tools.


3. Follow the on-screen instructions to recover card data.








4. When the files have been successfully restored, highlight those you wish to save and copy them to the computer. Save all files you want to keep before moving on to Step 5.








5. Open the computer's Start Menu, and select "My Computer."


6. Right-click on the corrupted memory card, and select "Format."


7. Select the default file system, and click "Start." The memory card will be reformatted and ready for use again.
