How Does The Pictureinpicture Feature On A Samsung Lcd Work

How Does the Picture-In-Picture Feature on a Samsung LCD Work?

The Basics

The "Picture in Picture" feature on a Samsung LCD television allows you to display two programs on screen at the same time. One program will be displayed on the full television screen as normal, and the other will be displayed in a smaller square that can be moved around the screen at the user's discretion. The sound can be switched to come from either the big-screen program or the one on the little screen, but not from both at the same time. This feature requires your model of television to have two TV tuners built inside that work independently of each other. Each tuner is in charge of displaying one of the two video sources.```

Single-Tuner TVs

Samsung LCD models with only one TV tuner can still utilize the "Picture in Picture" feature, but not in the traditional way a two-tuner model would. The second video source will have to come from some kind of external device, be it a DVD or Blu-ray player. You can, however, add external hardware to be able to see two television programs from single-tuner TVs. You can purchase an external tuner on the Internet or from an electronics retailer and plug that in. Additionally, if your cable box has composite or component outputs, you can hook it up with both these outputs and the standard coaxial cable.

Digital Channels

Even if your Samsung television is a model that supports "Picture in Picture," this will unfortunately not apply to digital cable channels. If you have a digital cable service, your "Picture in Picture" feature will not work at all unless you are using it to view something from another video source, like a DVD player or a video-game console. The only kind of channels that will be able to utilize the TV tuners in a way that will enable "Picture in Picture" are over-the-air broadcasts that you would receive from an attached antenna or regular analog cable signals.
