A Date Stamp To A Picture

Digital cameras can embed either the date and time or just the date to an image.

Many digital cameras include a feature where you can add a date stamp on pictures. The date is added to the images as you capture it and is permanently embedded. Assuming the camera's time and date is set, the time and date data are recorded to the image file automatically. The date stamp feature then graphically incorporates that information onto the image. Sometimes the feature is called "Date Imprint Mode."

Instructions

1. Set the correct time and date on the camera so that the imprinted date will be correct. Enter the "Menu" or "Setup" area of the camera and look for a setting called "Time & Date" or something similar. Use the arrow keys to change the time and date, and then confirm to save it.

2. Choose a recording style that supports the date stamp function. Not all modes will support it. For example, on some Canon cameras it's only supported in "Postcard" mode, in which the recorded pixels have a width-to-height ratio of 3:2. You may have to scroll through the various modes until you find one that allows embedding. In the case of a Canon, though, choose "Postcard."

3. Select the "Date Stamp" option from the "Recording" menu while in "Postcard" mode. There's a choice of "Off," "Date" or "Date and Time." Choose the option you'd like and then press "Enter." The images will be embedded with the date and time or just the date. Be careful using this feature if you ever intend to sell your pictures, since some agencies might not accept stamped images.
