Moisturize Your Beard

Keep your beard hair soft and supple with a regular routine.

Whether your beard is long and full or short and trimmed, if it's soft and moisturized it looks healthier and feels better than an unkempt one. Men typically don't need an extensive routine in keeping their facial hair at its best, but a regular schedule helps hair from drying out. When creating a routine for maintaining a healthy beard, it is important to consider the type and amount of products you put on your hair and skin.

Instructions

1. Choose a mild shampoo for your beard. Find a product with moisturizing compounds like vitamin E, cocoa butter or jojoba oil.

2. Wet your face and beard with warm water. Splash the water on your face for several minutes to soften the hair follicles and open up the pores on your skin. Your skin and beard will be more receptive to the shampoo which encourages soft hair.

3. Lather your skin and beard with the shampoo. Rinse away the soap with warm water.

4. Pat your skin and beard dry with a towel. Allow your beard to dry, but avoid using a blow-dryer as this can dry out your skin and make the hair strands brittle.

5. Comb out your beard with a wide-toothed comb to get rid of tangles or mats. Work slowly to avoid pulling the hair out from the skin.

6. Apply a leave-in conditioner or pre-shave oil to your beard hair. This coats the hair strands and protects it from drying out.

Tips Warnings

If your skin seems sensitive to regular shampoos, try using a gentle baby formula to avoid irritation.

Stop using a product if you have adverse side effects. You may be allergic to one or more ingredients in the product.

Avoid using an oil or product that contains alcohol. This can dry out your beard and leave your skin itchy.
