You only need a USB cable and the Internet to install the printer.
Hewlett Packard originally sold the Deskjet F340 with an installation CD, which was used to install the printer's software and drivers onto the computer. The printer's drivers allow the printer and computer to communicate. The software makes it possible for the computer to process and store scans made with the F340. If you do not have the installation CD, you can download the installation software from HP's website. The installation software you download from HP's website is customized to the operating system your computer is using.
Instructions
1. Turn on the Deskjet F340 and the computer you want to use with the printer. At this time, do not connect the USB cable between the printer and the computer.
2. Open the computer's Internet browser and enter www.hp.com in the URL window. Press the Enter button. Click on the Support and Drivers link at the top of the page, then select Download Drivers and Software. Enter Deskjet F340 in the empty field and press Enter.
3. Select the operating system you are using on the computer. Next, select the link titled HP Photosmart Software and Drivers: USB Support. A download dialog box will come up on the computer's screen. Choose where on the computer's hard drive you want to save the installation software. Wait for the installation software to complete download.
4. Find the installation software on the computer and double-click on it. Follow the on-screen instructions in the installation software. When the software has finished installing the printer's software and drivers, restart the computer. Connect the USB cable between the printer and the computer, making sure it is securely in place at both ends.
