Put Music On A Nextel Phone

Most Sprint Nextel phones are capable of playing music.

Sprint Nextel is one of the biggest wireless service providers in the United States. The company offers various popular phone models, including phones from Samsung, LG, Motorola and Palm. Many of these phones are capable of playing unprotected music files. Learn transfer and put music onto a Nextel phone so you can enjoy your song collection anywhere.

Instructions

1. Launch Windows Media Player if you have a Windows PC. If you are using a Mac or do not use Windows Media Player, skip to Step 3. Plug one end of the Nextel USB cable into your Nextel phone while inserting the other end into your computer. A dialogue screen will appear on your Nextel phone's screen display asking if you want to transfer music or store data. Click the "Transfer Music" option.

2. Enter a nickname for your phone into the dialogue box. Click "Finish" and press the "Sync" button that now appears in Windows Media Player. Drag songs from your Windows Media Player library into the transfer column on the right of the screen. Once you've selected all the music you wish to put on your phone, click "Start Sync." The music will now be automatically transferred to your Nextel phone and will be available in your Nextel device's audio library.

3. Use the USB cord and connect the Nextel phone to your computer if you do not want to transfer music via Windows Media Player. If the player software launches automatically, close it. The phone will ask if you wish to activate a modem, transfer data or store data. Click "Transfer." On a Mac, a new drive will appear on your desktop. On a PC, a new drive will appear in "My Computer." Double-click this drive. Drag music files into the folder. When you've copied all the files that you want, click "Exit" on your Nextel phone's screen. The music now appears in your Nextel phone's audio library.

4. Remove the memory card from the right-hand side of your Nextel phone if you have a phone model that utilizes this method of storage expansion. Insert into a card reader connected to your computer. Open the memory card via your Mac desktop or your Windows PC's "My Computer" folder. Drag the music files you wish to transfer into the memory card's folder. Eject and reinsert into your Nextel phone. The music files will now appear in the phone's audio library.

5. Use the Sprint wireless music store (see Resources) accessed through your phone's home screen by selecting the "Nextel Store" icon. As of September 2009, the company offers more than 2 million songs for download. Most songs start at 99 cents and download directly into your device's audio library. Caution should be exercised if you do not have a data plan, as downloading a song without such a plan can be very expensive.
