Make A Speaker Box For A Dodge Ram

Speaker space can be limited in a pickup truck. If you want to add some speakers to your system, here's a design for a speaker box that'll fit behind the front seat of your truck. It's built to hold a pair of 6 1/2-inch speakers and can be made with some basic materials, parts and tools.

Instructions

1. Cut the following pieces out of your MDF with your circular saw. Dimensions of the six pieces you'll need to cut: Front panel, 18 by 9 inches; back panel, 18 by 9 inches; top panel, 18 by 6 inches; bottom panel, 18 by 6 inches; end panels (cut 2), 9 by 7 1/4 inches.

2. Cut openings in the front panel for the pair of 6 1/2-inch speakers. Speakers vary slightly in size from brand to brand, so use your speakers as a template. Center the openings horizontally and vertically. Make a starter hole for each with your drill, and then complete the openings with your jig saw.

3. Cut openings for your terminal cups on the back panel. Center these vertically and horizontally as well and use the same method you used in Step 2 to cut the openings.

4. Assemble the front, top, bottom and back panels together. Use wood glue and wood screws to assemble the pieces. You'll now have a rectangular box with two speaker openings in the front and two terminal cup openings in the back.

5. Put the end panels onto the box. Secure them in place with wood glue and wood screws.

6. Attach speaker wires to the inside tabs of the terminal cups, feed the wire into the box and mount the terminal cups in their openings with wood screws.

7. Attach the speaker wires from the terminal cups to the speakers (one speaker to one terminal cup). Place the wire in the box and then mount the speakers in their openings. Hold them in place with wood screws.
