Protecting your children is very important. Nanny cams keep track of your nanny or babysitter, recording things that happens while you are away. Later, you can watch the tapes and make sure your nanny is doing what you've asked her to and not doing anything you find dangerous. Nanny cams can be expensive, but you can make them yourself for much less cost.
Webcams
Secure a reliable webcam. Purchase one that operates without wires and does not need to be connected to your computer. Webcams can store information inside on a microchip or send information to an online site. Choose a webcam that is in a shape easy to conceal. Long, stick-type webcams are best because they can be most easily concealed. Buy storage for your webcam or sign up with an online site to send information to, depending on which type of webcam you have. Set up your storage device or your website with a password so you are the only person who has access.
Installation
Install your webcam in a place where your nanny or babysitter will spend most of the day. Conceal the webcam in the base of a flower pot, under books on a bookshelf, or between knick knacks on a shelf. Stick webcams can be concealed as regular wires. Conceal a round, ball-shaped or bigger webcam by putting it inside a knick knack or a stuffed animal with a hole cut inside it. Run wires for the camera if your webcam requires it. Hook up the webcam to your computer.
Recording
Decide how you would like to record. Most families keep their webcam on all day and scan through images in the evenings. You might choose to set your webcam to record 10 seconds every five minutes or to turn on randomly throughout the day.
Other Cameras
Use a regular video camera if you do not want to use a webcam. Find a place to conceal your video camera where it can still record as much of the day as possible, and leave it running during the day. Hide the camera under a hat, on a high shelf or inside a toy.
