Connect a video camera to your computer.
After you have captured video onto your digital video camera you may want to upload the content to a computer for editing. There are several ways to connect the camera to your computer. Some formats provide better image resolution, so check both the computer and your camera for the best connection option.
Instructions
1. Check your computer for a firewire port. This connection provides the best video quality due to its superior data transfer speed. The port resembles a USB port, except one side is curved and a "Y" icon is printed next to it.
2. Plug the firewire cable into your digital video camera, then plug the opposite end of the cable into the firewire port on your computer.
3. Connect the USB data cable to the USB port on your camera if the computer does not offer a firewire port. Plug the opposite end of the USB data cable into one of the USB ports on your computer.
4. Connect the end of the 3.5 mm to RCA cable into the "Line Out" port on your video camera. Plug the other end into the video capture card of your computer, if you have a card. If not, you can purchase an external video capture card from most electronic stores. These cards connect to your computer through a USB port.
