Use Safari On An Iphone

With the Apple iPhone, you can access the Internet at any time through Apple's Safari web browser. Zoom in on a web page with just a finger tap, or customize your home pages. Learn the basics of navigating Safari so that you can read the latest news, check sports scores or view video clips.

Instructions

1. Tap "Safari" at the bottom of the iPhone's home screen. At the top of the screen, type in a web address by using the keypad. Follow a text or an image link on the web page. Tap the image or the blue, underlined text link to open a new page.

2. Switch your web page from full screen to widescreen. Turn the iPhone sideways so that the page expands from left to right. Turn it back to the vertical position to get back to the normal view.

3. Zoom in on a news article or another web item. At the front page of the website, double-tap a column or section. The article expands so that you can read it without eyestrain. To zoom out, double-tap again.

4. Drag your finger up, down or sideways to scroll the web page. One finger is necessary to scroll the web page, but if you're scrolling frames within the page, use two fingers.

5. Search the web through Safari. Tap the magnifying glass icon at the top left of the page to get to the browser search field. Enter a word or phrase, then click the browser link to generate a list of related search results. Safari has its own default browser, but you can change it by going to the iPhone home screen, picking "Settings," "Safari," "Search Engine" and then the browser of your choice.

6. Customize the Safari homepage by adding your favorite websites. Find the websites that you want to add, then press the "plus" icon at the bottom of the screen to add them to your Safari homepage. Delete a homepage icon by touching and holding the icon until it wiggles, then press "X" in the corner of the icon. Going back to Safari's homepage saves your changes.

7. Add a bookmark to a website if you want to revisit it without typing the address. Again, tap the "plus" icon, followed by "Add Bookmark." To open the bookmark, touch the open book icon at the bottom of the page, then tap on a saved page. Exit Safari by touching the "Home" button, which takes you back to the iPhone home screen.
