Iphone Quick Tips

Become an iPhone expert with these ten quick tips

Whether you have the iPhone, iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, or iPhone 4, you know that the manual it came with didn't explain everything you needed to know. There are a lot of secrets about the iPhone that its everyday users don't know about, here are a few.

Zoom

Zoom in and out on pictures in the Photo app by pinching your thumb and forefinger together and apart.

Set your wallpaper

Set your iPhone wallpaper.

Choose your wallpaper by going to Settings and tapping "Wallpaper." You can add photos to your Photo Library when you plug your iPhone into your computer and choose the option to sync your iPhoto Library with iTunes. These photos will then show up under "Wallpaper" and you can set them as your Home Screen and Lock Screen.

Lock your screen so it won't change orientation when you don't want it to

Lock your screen so it won't wobble between portrait and landscape.

Lock your screen to stay in the portrait orientation so that the screen won't change between portrait and landscape by pressing the home button twice, scrolling to the left, and tapping the far left square icon with the circular arrow. Tap the icon a second time to unlock.

Front-facing camera

You'll be able to see yourself on the screen with the front facing camera.

Take a picture of yourself and friends while being able to see yourselves by going to the camera app and tapping hit the camera with two arrows icon on the top-right corner.

Do anything during a call

Press the Home button (the round button with the square at the bottom of the iPhone) and do anything while on a call. You can jot down notes, use Safari, send a text message, and so on. Tap the green bar that appears at the top of the screen to return to the call screen.

Folders

Organize your apps by creating folders. Hold your finger on one app icon until all the icons start shaking. Drag an icon onto another icon and they will be placed in a folder together. Whenever you tap that folder you can access all the apps inside it. Several apps can be put in one folder, and you can create several folders.

Copy and paste

Copy and paste text on the web, in the Notes app, on text messages, or anywhere else by holding your finger on a body of text, then touching "select all" on the menu that appears. Then tap "copy" on the same menu. Go to wherever you want to paste the text, hold your finger down until the menu comes up, and hit "paste."

Period

Tap the space bar twice when writing a text message to insert a period [ . ] instead of having to go to the symbols page and tap the "." key.

Prolong your battery life

Save your battery by going to Settings and toggling the Wi-Fi activation to "off" if you're not using it, then turning down the brightness, which is also in Settings.

Scientific calculator

The iPhone can help you do trigonometry and other mathematics.

Rotate the iPhone so that it goes to landscape orientation while using the Calculator app to reveal scientific functions.
