Reboot A Cable Converter After A Power Failure

Cable converter boxes typically revert to the factory settings when the electrical connection is cut to the component, such as during a power failure. Rebooting the box clears the component's memory so that the user can reprogram the digital channels and continue watching television. This two-step process takes only a couple of minutes. Depending on the converter-box model, it may take longer for the equipment to reprogram the available channels than it will to reboot.

Instructions

1. Unplug the AC power cord from the back of the converter box, and wait at least 10 seconds before plugging the cord back into the box.

2. Disconnect the coaxial cable from the converter box by turning the coupler on the end of the cable counter-clockwise to remove it from the jack.

3. Press the "Scan," "Auto-Tuning" or "Auto-Scan" button, depending on the converter box model, while the cable is disconnected from the box. This will completely clear the memory.

4. Reconnect the coaxial cable by turning the coupler clockwise over the external threads on the converter box jack.

5. Press the "Scan" button once again to reprogram the box with all available cable channels after rebooting the component.
